1) Auto  Journalist –

The candidate selected will be assigned a beat, depending upon their abilities and interests, and the needs of the newsroom, so the ability to develop sources and cover a specific area is essential.

Candidates should be familiar with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, QuarkXpress and Photoshop as well as some knowledge of software programs that aid in posting to the Web. Must be willing to learn new things, be flexible and able to adapt and grow with the job. Must be able to take photographs and shoot video to accompany stories, or be willing to learn same. Candidates will be required to post video, photographs and stories to the Web, along with copy editing and page proofing. A valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, proof of auto insurance and the ability to cover assignments at night or on weekends is required.

Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related discipline preferred. Experience working in a digital newsroom a plus.

 

2) Senior Media Relations Specialist –

Assist in day-to-day management of media relations activities, including outreach, responding to inquiries, preparing staff for interviews, developing specialized content for internal and external audiences, and promoting positive coverage.

Duties and Responsibilities

1) Assist Associate Director in day-to-day management of media outreach, including placement/pitching, reporter cultivation, and development of news releases and related content, coordinating efforts with digital media and editorial teams.
2) Respond to media inquiries and work with staff to schedule interviews.
3) Assist in staff preparation for media interviews.
4) Monitor coverage of www.ministryofauto.com by traditional and new media outlets in both trade and consumer media arenas and identify material warranting staff attention and potential response.
5) Work with Associate Director to develop, maintain and update media relations collateral, traditional and digital, with an eye to the look, feel, functionality, and quality of the material.
6) Work with Associate Director to develop specialized content for placement in external media channels and to develop and manage internal communications tools and vehicles, including staff, senior management and Board updates and coverage alerts.
7) Represent www.ministryofauto.com at meeting exhibit booths, assist with communications activities at workshops and other events, and assist in managing media briefings as directed.
8) Work with Associate Director to implement media relations strategy and ensure adherence to performance metrics.
